EP27: How to Become an Authority in Your Niche w/ Marketing Optimization Expert, Alex Harris (@alexdesigns)
Episode 27 the Empowered Podcast features Alex Harris, owner and creative mind behind Alex Designs.
Alex shares how he reacted and recovered from the internet boom, how he got his first client, the methods he used to market and launch a very successful podcast about marketing optimization, ROI, and how we can become authorities in our niches.
After listening to and editing this episode, my wife, Ashley, was so excited, she told me I needed to listen to this one again! So grab a pen, take notes, and let me know what you think!
Alex's Mission:
Progress = happiness
How Alex defines empowerment:
“When I think about being empowered, I get this feeling of being juiced. You get this feeling when you get an idea, that no matter what the idea is, it's going to be the best thing that's going to change your life. But it's the people around you that empower you and are going to get the best out of you.”
What Alex and I talked about:
What does a typical day look like for you?
I write, journal, draw or read but I stay offline for the first hour of my day. Something that takes you off-line to allow your brain to expand.
Then I do an “hour of power” – you go through a process of really thinking about all of your celebrations and what you are thankful for. This morning ritual has created a foundation for work for the rest of my day. It doesn't matter what happens throughout the rest of my day, I've already gone through a process where I'm so happy with my life, that it doesn't matter what happens.
What are you doing today that will keep you moving forward tomorrow?
Every day I'm going to make small amounts of progress.
How do you unwind and relax?
I mountain bike or run.
What was the last movie you saw?
I really have no idea.
EPIC Question: What is one tip, or one piece of advice you can give people who are just starting?
“If you really want to improve the amount of money you make from your website, spend a lot of time on it. Start looking at your website from the outside in. Take yourself outside, because you're going to have tunnel vision and you're not going to be able to see the changes that you need to make.”

Great conversation. Thanks for sharing. Alex I can relate to the client phone calls from the car back when I was working a full time job and building on the side. I’ve even done some calls in stairwells, LOL. 🙂
