Episode 32 of the Empowered Podcast features professional coach and author, Laurel Staples!
Laurel shares how she left a corporate job as a mechanical engineer to start her own clothing store. She'll share the ups and downs, as well as what she learned from that experience. Laurel will also tell us what it was like getting resistance from her parents, and how she has become successful.
Thank Laurel for being on the show!
Laurel's Mission:
To help you become your own boss, live the life of your dreams and not waste another second in a cubicle.
How Laurel defines empowerment:
If I'm empowered, it means I'm making an impact in this world. It's about more than money. Money is great and it allows you to do a lot of things, but for me, being empowered is being grounded in who I am.
What Laurel and I talked about:
How did you empower yourself to make the changes necessary to get you to where you are today?
When you're going through [life's changes] it, it doesn't necessarily feel really good. For me, what I've learned to do, is to really follow and listen to my gut feeling. I had to be aware of my gut feeling and trust it.
When you decided to do what you're doing now, what types of Resistance did you face?
People think you're crazy! People have lots of opinions about what you should and shouldn't do. To this day, I don't think my mother has any idea about what I'm doing.
Realize if people are giving you opinions, their thoughts and resistance about what you want to do, recognize who that's coming from and ask if it's a source you should be paying attention to.
What are you doing today that will keep you moving forward tomorrow?
I'm being consistent.
Since you decided to face your fears and charge forward, what have you stopped doing?
I gave up some of the luxuries of life. I don't go out to eat every single night or to the movies all the time. I have better uses for my money.
What was the last movie you saw?
Frozen
EPIC Question: What is one tip, or one piece of advice you can give people who are just starting?
Consistently get out of your comfort zone. Get into the “learning zone.”
