Stop Waiting and Start Doing
Stop it! Stop waiting around, waiting for the right time or for when you're ready, and start doing.
So many people fail before they even get started. They stay in one place and assume that one day they'll get a feeling that will let them know it's time to take the next step.
Screw your feelings. Stop waiting. Start doing.
I get to work with a lot of fantastic individuals. I wish it were more, but that's on me.
But, while working with all of these wonderful, hardworking, intelligent people, I have started noticing a trend. This habit, this characteristic, I don't know what you'd call it… is found in men and women, corporate employees, stay at home moms, people around the world.
There is no pattern. This trend, this habit, is prevalent everywhere.
An Unfortunate Trend
This trend is people who know what they should do but refuse to do it.
They know what actions to take, but they choose to do nothing. People who know they should eat healthier, but they don't. People who know they should spend more time with their loved ones, but they don't.
Aspiring entrepreneurs who know they should call a prospect, write their book, record their vlog, create their course, finish their sales page, hire a coach, change their friends, pound the pavement, get up earlier, turn off the tv, get back to work…
… but they don't.
… but I don't.
The Underlying Cause
Fear. Fear keeps us comfortably uncomfortable. I don't always face my fears either. Sometimes I let what I know I should do get overtaken by what I want to do. But one thing I've realized is that if it's meant to be it's up to me.
Your business will not start itself.
My guess is that if you paused for just a minute, you could identify at least five things you could do today to move your business forward. Some of those tasks you could complete today, others might take a week.
Why haven't you done them yet?
Is it that you don't have time?
We know that's a lie.
Is it that you don't want to spend the money?
The cost of lost opportunity and waiting is often larger than the cost of the item itself, and the time you've spent waiting has cost you more than money.
Is it that you're not ready?
Is it because you're afraid?
Stop Waiting; Start Doing
We will never be ready, the time will never be right, and our fear is irrational. This isn't worrying about getting your feelings hurt because you got picked last for the kickball team. This is your life. This is your business.
Success requires risk. Swinging for the fences also means you may strike out. Throwing a hail Mary to win the game also means you may throw an incomplete, or worse, an interception.
But, to win, you have to stop waiting and start doing.
If it scares you, do it. If it's the right thing to do, do it. If it's hard, then you must do it.
To get to the end of the line and be able to look back and appreciate the life you were given, I expect your memories would be made of the times you did, and not of the times you waited.
Stop waiting.
Start doing.
