Are You Tired? Here is What Keeps Me Going (and can keep you going too!)
Do you ever get tired? I mean really exhausted. Tired of what you're doing, tired of where you're headed, tired of not getting the results you had hoped for?
I know I do.
I'm an analytics junkie. I look at data and numbers all the time. However, those numbers don't always tell me what I want to hear. Sometimes I get tired of getting up early, staying up late, and not getting all of the results that I want to get.
But I love what I'm doing. I love connecting with new people, hearing about their lives and what they're up to.
Today I want to share what keeps me going, and what will (maybe) help keep you going too!
We should all follow our dreams. Life is too short to do something you don't like doing for very long. But even doing what you love can be exhausting.
I often get up three hours before have to be at the office to read, write, and connect with like-minded people. When I get home, if I'm not binging on my latest favorite video game, I generally work for another three to four hours.
Yet, just when I'm starting to feel tired and like I'm just spinning my wheels, I think about the things I'm about to share with you.
Here is what keeps me going, and will help keep you going too!
The unseen finish line.
Can you imagine how awful you'd feel if you quit only to find out that you were just inches from the finish line?
Holy crap! That would drive me nuts!
In life, unlike on the race track, there is no checkered flag, no tape to burst through with arms held high.
The idea that just months, or minutes away from finishing I quit because I was tired… makes me sick to my stomach.
If you're like me, you work too damn hard to see your dreams slip through your fingers because you got tired.
If you read no further, think about the unseen finish line that could be, no, is, just around the corner, just over the horizon.
Don't quit! Never give up! Never give up! Never give up!
Don't put yourself in a position where you look back and say, “If only I'd….”
Keep it new and fresh.
Phew, that unseen finish line gets me riled up! Additionally, sometimes we just need to do something new.
While I love chocolate ice cream, I couldn't eat it forever. Even though I love a medium rare New York strip, I couldn't eat that forever either. Sometimes we just need a change.
You can love what you're doing but get tired of the daily activities. Even if you're not exhausted, adding in variety will help give you the endurance needed to finish the marathon.
For me, I've added in my podcast, a few YouTube videos that I plan to expand on, and I'm working on some e-courses to help people lay a solid foundation for their online businesses.
For you, this could be as simple as changing your routine or adjusting what you listen to during your commute. It could also be as significant as changing your job or moving to a new city.
Whatever you need to do to recharge, do it. It's easy to get burned out, and burnout won't help you to get where you're going.
What's your why?
As I mentioned in this article,”Why?” is the only question that matters. The difference between someone who succeeds and someone who fails is often the answer to the question, “why?”
Why do you get up every morning and work for hours on end?
Why do you pick up that instrument and practice on the weekends?
Why do you grab your laptop and type your heart out onto a blog?
I want to help you live the life you were meant to live. I want to help you become a better leader, a better friend, a better spouse, brother, mother, all of those.
That's why I started my blog – because I wanted to share what I was learning with the world.
What's your why?
Don't focus on what you do, or how you do it. Intently focus on why you do what you do and you'll live happier, be more successful, and more passionate.
If you haven't seen Simon Sinek's TED talk on the importance of “why”, you have to watch the video below. I promise, it will change how you see the world and how you view what you do.
Simon also has a book titled, Start with Why. I'm almost done listening to it on audiobook I highly recommend you check it out. If you'd like to use my affiliate link (free to you) you can grab the audiobook on Audible, or the book on Amazon here.
Question: What keeps you going? How do you keep it new and fresh? What is your “why?” Share with me in the comments below by clicking here!
Ellory, great post. I think it’s important not to get lost in the analytics and simply try to enjoy the process.
Becoming an “overnight success” usually happens after years and years of hard work.
My “why” is simply personal development…connecting with others and growing myself.
I realize it’s a process and I’m doing my best to savor it all.
Thanks Larry! I’m glad that you stopped by.
You are right, if the process isn’t fun, the result probably won’t be with it.
Thanks for connecting! Anything I can help you with?
Ellory, I would love to connect with you soon and see what tools are benefitting you the most. I’m very interested in your thoughts on MailChimp. I’m looking to install a more professional subscriber follow-up system on my site and would love your input. I’m trying to figure out where exactly to get started. 🙂
Larry,
Just let me know when; I’m always willing to help if I can.
As far as tools go, here is a list of what I use most and a brief explanation as to why: http://www.empoweringthe80percent.com/blogging-tools
If you’re looking for additional ways to connect, check this out: http://www.ellorywells.com/lets-connect-where-can-i-find-you/
Let me know how else I can help!
Ellory, wow tons of great resources! I love how your blog and platform are put together.
Clicking through your site tonight has given me many ideas and much to aspire to with my own blog.
Thanks for being so willing to share a behind-the-scenes look at all your tools.
Absolutely! And seriously, thank you for commenting. Without comments and connections, this truly would be me typing in room by myself listening to David Lanz on Pandora
I’m preparing to speak this Sunday which is eating up much of my free time this week, but I’d love the opportunity to connect with you early next week.
I’ll shoot you an email and see what best suits your schedule. Really looking forward to connecting.
Oh, and if there are any other areas where you’d like a “behind the scenes” look, just let me know.
I’m always looking for topics to write about and if you have something you’d like more info on, you’ll get it! Thanks again.

Wow, and I thought my hour or two a day was a lot of time. My why is because I have stories to tell that can change people’s lives, help them to heal
I also look at numbers and they don’t change fast. I’ve come to accept that. I won’t stop, but I am also committed to keeping balance in my life, even if it means less time and less numbers. If I’m not healthy and balanced all the numbers won’t make a difference. I’ve actually been cutting back on time working on the blog. It’s the creative writing that drives me. The blog is simply a platform to showcase some of it.
Balance is definitely important. I tend to swing from one extreme to another, but I guess there is some balance in that.
I’m loving your blog and I may be sending you my article for crushed in the next week or so!

Thanks for the energizing post Ellory. What keeps me going is when something I wrote lifts someone else’s spirit or motivates them in a direction they were trying to get traction in their life.
This is a great post about pressing on. Thanks!
